Forty-five percent of Americans say that poor or insufficient sleep affected their daily activities in the previous week, according to the National Sleep Foundation’s inaugural Sleep Health Index™.
Thirty five percent report their sleep quality as “poor” or “only fair, and a quarter of the population report they did not awake feeling refreshed on any of the past seven days.
A contributing factor to poor sleep quality is exposure to artificial Blue light (from energy efficient lighting, TV’s Tablets, Computers or Smart phones ) two to three hours before the regular sleep time. Blue light in the hours prior to sleep can suppress the production of Melatonin which regulates sleep and our circadian rhythm; the consequences are not only reduced mental performance, but also a number of chronic disease including depression, obesity, irritability, cardiovascular issues, and cancer.
The TrueBlue MPF™ lens has a patented filtration of artificial Blue Light in specific ranges so that it will not suppress Melatonin production and allow for the circadian rhythm and sleep/wake cycle to be more balanced than would be the case if the lenses were not worn.
